Noel of Perlas Design encouraged me to join the online Pie Contest at Instructables.com. Instructables is “The World’s Biggest Show And Tell,” where users post pictures with accompanying instructions on how to do and make everything from a USB Batman Flashlight to crafting angel wings.
When I read about the contest, I decided I wanted to post something fun and creative. I’m still riding on the Twilight high and thought it would be great to craft a pie using the colors of the book’s cover. Plus, it occurred to me that “vampie” would be a pun-y name for the dessert too!
So, this past Saturday found me in the kitchen, hunched over my cauldron of straberry-syrup blood. It was a lot of fun, and I ended up decorating two pies, one with a splash of bloody syrup, the other with bleeding fang marks. I posted everything, with photos and descriptions, on Instructables yesterday (almost didn’t make the deadline!) I’m happy to say that the site picked it up as a Featured Instructable, and my pie was on the homepage for quite a good bit!

on another note, i saw on TV a little shortcut on making pie crusts: take the butter (still hard) and grate it, then toss with the flour. simple, no?

I might be a gardener, but you’re the baker and I love your goodies! I especially like the pie with the fang punctures ^_^ Very halloweenish. I might give it a try on October, but I’m pretty poor when it comes to dealing with pastry. It looks delish though. And thanks for sharing the site. I might have a wander and see what I can find <3

Sorry for the double post, but I just wondered if you would recommend the Twilight books. They haven’t hit the UK yet, but I heard they are all the rage in the US. I was reading an article about it and a journalist likened it to the Harry Potter series.

I love your frozen butter-grating tip! Except that my favorite recipe uses shortening, which is always at room temp. But when I come across one that uses butter, I’ll have a go using your suggestion.

I haven’t read any of the Twilight series yet but i am seeking for a copy. The fans are shrieking out real good in the US, it’s not making any noise here in the Phils. though.
But then again, that strawberry pie looks bloody-yummy!
